GENERAL INFORMATION

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to do more than any other curricula in developing inquiring, knowledgeable, caring young people who are motivated to succeed and who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. IB gives students distinct advantages by building their critical thinking skills, nurturing their curiosity and the ability to solve complex problems in local and global contexts. IB is the only global education platform that develops the whole learner - intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically - and encourages students to be internationally-minded within a hyper-connected world.

Vanguard High School was authorized as an IB World School in 1996. As the longest running academic magnet program, and the only IB Diploma Programme (DP) in Marion County, the IB at Vanguard represents a longstanding tradition of excellence in our community. The IB DP cultivates an environment where students have a genuine interest in global awareness and provides an internationally standardized curriculum that is inclusive, flexible, and future-oriented, ensuring that young people are best prepared for post-secondary success.

Graduates of the IB at Vanguard have been accepted to all eight Ivy League Universities, all five United States Service Academies, over 30 state colleges and universities, and close to 100 national and international schools. Recent IB grads are currently attending prestigious schools including MIT, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Georgetown, Boston, Cornell, Brown, Duke, Emory, Stanford, Wake Forest, NYU, Georgia Tech, Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania, Rice, and Vanderbilt.

For the 2025-2026 school year, there are 260 students enrolled in the IB at Vanguard, grades 9-12.
